European Public Health Week: simple steps for everyone.

Health is not only the absence of disease, but also full physical, mental and social well-being. That is why the European Public Health Week encourages us to think about disease prevention and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Public health aims to improve the well-being of individuals and communities at both national and global levels.

In Ukraine, the main causes of premature death are cardiovascular, cancer, lung and diabetes. It is important not only to treat these diseases, but also to prevent them by fostering a culture of health, changing behavioural habits and lifestyles.

What can we do ourselves?

🔹A balanced diet - more vegetables and fruit, less salt, sugar and trans fats.

🔹Physical activity - at least 150 minutes a week.
🔹 Quitting bad habits - Tobacco, alcohol and drugs are harmful to health.
🔹Quality sleep - 7-8 hours a day, in compliance with the regime.
🔹Hygiene. - regular hand washing, use of personal items.
🔹Psychological well-being - family support, emotional balance.
🔹Safe behaviour - use of contraception, compliance with traffic rules.
🔹 Blood pressure control - especially in the presence of cardiovascular disease.

The state guarantees access to medical services.

Thanks to medical guarantee programme Ukrainians can receive a range of medical services and medicines free of charge.

Every citizen, regardless of income or place of residence, can go to any healthcare facility that has an agreement with the NHSU and receive the necessary assistance. But our personal activity also plays an important role:

  • Take a course in first aid first aid coursesIt can save lives.
  • Get vaccinated for vaccination calendar - in childhood and adulthood.
  • Consult a doctor at the first symptoms - do not hesitate.
  • Get medicines under the programme "Affordable medicines"- free of charge or with a partial surcharge.
  • Get regular check-ups.

What do you need to check regularly?

  • General blood and urine tests - every year.
  • Blood glucose level - every year since the age of 35.
  • Cholesterol -Every 4-6 years from the age of 20.
  • Faecal test for occult blood - every year from the age of 50 or if there are risk factors.
