How to protect yourself from breast cancer

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world.

Most often, the first manifestation of breast cancer is a painless "ball" (lump) or lump in the breast. If you find this, see your doctor immediately. Early detection of neoplasms contributes to successful diagnosis and timely medical intervention.

Among the symptoms of breast cancer:

  • the appearance of a "ball" or lump in the chest;
  • Changes in the size, shape and appearance of the breast;
  • retraction, redness, appearance of any changes in the skin of the breast;
  • Changes in the shape and appearance of the nipple or the skin around the nipple (areola);
  • discharge from the nipple (purulent, bloody, unpleasant smell);
  • swollen and/or painful axillary or supraclavicular lymph nodes.

Prevention of breast cancer

To prevent breast cancer, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle (quit smoking, alcohol, engage in regular physical activity and maintain a normal body weight), as well as undergo a timely medical examination:

  • a mammologist - at least once every 1-2 years;
  • Women over 50 years of age should have mammograms every two years.

Also, all women over the age of 20 should have their breasts examined monthly by themselves. If you notice any changes in your breasts, contact your doctor immediately!

Talk to your doctor about how often you need preventive examinations - it depends on your age and risk factors that may affect the development of cancer.

Breast cancer in the early stages (stages I and II) is asymptomatic and does not cause pain. You should pay attention to very painful critical days and breast pain.
